Niagara Falls Discovery

From the walkways of Niagara Falls State Park, America's oldest state park, your group watches the Niagara River pour over the brink, then boards the Maid of the Mist to feel the spray at the base of the falls. A short drive south, Buffalo adds a different American story: the house where Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office and Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House, one of his finest Prairie houses. Back at the falls, the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center tells the stories of the freedom seekers who crossed this same river to reach freedom in Canada.

Day by Day

The route your group travels

1
Niagara Falls

First Look at the Falls

Start at the railing. Our Storyteller Guides walk your group through Niagara Falls State Park, tracing the river from the upper rapids to the brink of the American Falls, with time at the overlooks to take it in. After dinner, return for the nightly illumination, when the falls glow in changing colors against the dark gorge.

2
Niagara Falls & Lewiston

Into the Spray

Poncho on, your group boards the Maid of the Mist and rides into the basin of the Horseshoe Falls, close enough to feel the river land. Back on shore, choose the Cave of the Winds walkways toward Bridal Veil Falls or Goat Island's quieter overlooks. In Lewiston, Niagara Power Vista's hands-on exhibits show how this same water lights the region.

3
Buffalo

Buffalo, a President, and Frank Lloyd Wright

A short drive south, Buffalo holds history most travelers never expect. At the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, stand in the house where Roosevelt took the oath of office in 1901, days after President McKinley was shot at the Pan-American Exposition. Then tour Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House, one of his finest Prairie-period works, restored down to its art glass.

4
Buffalo & Niagara Falls

Canalside and the Freedom Crossing

Spend the morning at Canalside, the reborn waterfront where the Erie Canal met the Great Lakes and Buffalo grew into a port city. Back in Niagara Falls, the Underground Railroad Heritage Center tells the stories of freedom seekers who crossed this river into Canada.
