Footsteps of Saint Paul in Greece

Follow the route of the Apostle Paul from Macedonia to Athens and Corinth

Paul’s journey through Greece moves from the northern port where he entered Europe to cities where his preaching shaped early Christian communities. Begin in Kavala, ancient Neapolis, then walk Philippi’s Roman roads and early Christian remains before continuing through Thessaloniki and Veria, the Berea of Acts. At Meteora, visit Orthodox monasteries set above Thessaly’s sandstone pillars and see how Christian worship continued to shape Greece long after Paul. Athens brings the Areopagus, where Acts records his address to the city, while Ancient Corinth reveals the agora and Bema associated with his ministry. Included Greek welcome and farewell dinners place the biblical route within the life of present-day Greece.

Day by Day

The route your group travels

1
Thessaloniki

Welcome to Thessaloniki

Begin in Thessaloniki, the northern Greek city whose early Christian community received two of Paul’s letters. Walk the waterfront and tree-lined streets, then gather for an included Greek welcome dinner and an introduction to the journey ahead.

2
Northern Greece

Kavala, Philippi & Amphipolis

Travel to Kavala, ancient Neapolis, the port associated with Paul’s arrival in Europe. Continue to Philippi, where Roman roads, the forum, theatre, early Christian basilicas, and the traditional sites connected with Lydia and Paul place the account in Acts within a visible landscape. Stop at ancient Amphipolis before returning to Thessaloniki.

3
Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki From the Upper City to the Sea

Explore the city associated with Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians. Look across Thessaloniki from the upper walls and Trigonion Tower, then visit Vlatadon Monastery, the Rotunda, and the early Christian Church of Saint Demetrius before walking through the market and along the waterfront promenade.

4
Veria, Vergina & Kalambaka

Veria, Aigai & the Road to Meteora

Continue to Veria, the Berea of Acts, and visit the memorial traditionally associated with Paul’s preaching. At Aigai near Vergina, enter the ancient Macedonian capital and royal burial site connected with Philip II and Alexander the Great, then continue toward Kalambaka beneath the rock formations of Meteora.

5
Meteora & Athens

The Monasteries of Meteora

Visit two of the surviving Meteora monasteries, built high on sandstone pillars above Kalambaka and Kastraki. The churches, frescoes, and continuing Orthodox communities show how Christian monastic life took root in Greece centuries after Paul. Later, continue south to Athens.

6
Athens

Athens, the Acropolis & the Areopagus

Climb the Acropolis to see the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Propylaea, and Temple of Athena Nike. Stand on the Areopagus, or Mars Hill, where Acts records Paul addressing the Athenians, then continue past the Panathenaic Stadium, Parliament, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before walking through Plaka and gathering for dinner.

7
Corinth & Epidaurus

Ancient Corinth, Kechries & Epidaurus

Walk through Ancient Corinth, where Paul lived and worked, and see the Temple of Apollo, Fountain of Peirene, agora, and Bema. Pause near Kechries, ancient Cenchreae, the eastern port associated with his departure toward Ephesus. Continue to Epidaurus, the sanctuary of Asklepios known for its ancient theatre, then return to Athens for an included farewell dinner.

8
Athens

A Final Morning in Athens

Enjoy breakfast and a final view of Athens before the journey home. Depending on the group’s flight schedule, spend time walking through Plaka, browsing nearby streets, or taking in one more view of the Acropolis before the included airport transfer.
